Join Our 8-Week Cultivating Compassion in OCD Recovery Course (for new, existing and past clients)

This course is aimed for:

  • New and existing clients (over 18s) struggling with fear, shame and self-criticism and looking to develop greater self-compassion

  • Previous ERP therapy is not required as the focus will be on developing self-compassion rather than formal exposure and response prevention therapy

  • People hoping to connect with others in their OCD recovery and develop a sense of community and connectedness

Course details

  • This is an 8-week course for group members aged 18 years and over; each session is 90-minutes via Zoom

  • The course is led by Alex Habens, Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, and Amy Ofield, Clinical Psychologist. It is delivered as a structured group course rather than group therapy.

  • It takes place on Wednesday Evenings at 18:30 – 20:00 UK time

  • The cost is £480 for 8 sessions (£60 per session)

  • There will be an emphasis on collaboration, community, and compassionate support

  • Questionnaires are sent before and after the course at a follow-up interval, with group feedback available

Topics covered

  • Session 1: Introducing compassion and the group

  • Session 2: Exploring the three core emotion regulation systems (threat, drive, and soothing systems)

  • Session 3: Mindfulness and attention, including experiential acceptance as a starting point for cultivating compassion

  • Session 4: The first flow of compassion (compassion from others)

  • Session 5: The second flow of compassion (compassion for others)

  • Session 6: Working with self-criticism

  • Session 7: The third flow of compassion (compassion for our multiple selves – self-compassion)

  • Session 8: Cultivating and practicing self-compassion, end-of-course reflections, and evaluation

The Facilitators

Alex Habens, Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist

Alex is a highly experienced Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and Compassion Focused Therapist (CFT). Specialising in OCD and anxiety-related disorders, Alex integrates evidence-based CBT with compassionate, person-centred frameworks to help individuals soften self-judgment, manage threat responses, and build meaningful recovery. Alex appeared on The OCD Stories podcast episode, “A therapist’s journey with OCD and Compassion Focused Therapy,” where he talks openly and reflectively about his own experience as a therapist and his personal journey of recovery from OCD.

Amy Ofield, Clinical Psychologist

Amy is a registered Clinical Psychologist with extensive experience in supporting adults navigating OCD, anxiety, and complex emotional distress. She brings a warm, collaborative, and evidence-based approach to clinical practice, drawing on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). Amy is passionate about creating safe, de-stigmatising group spaces that empower individuals to understand their emotional systems, reduce shame and isolation, and build lasting self-compassion in their recovery.
