Clients in the UK:
If you are based in the UK and aren't on the NHS waitlist we recommend considering doing so as a backup.

It may be worth calling OCD Action as they can help you navigate the NHS route, and they may also know more private therapists.

All clients:
We recommend looking on the psychology today website for clinical psychologists with OCD experience. We recommend finding a therapist who will use Exposure and Response Prevention (part of CBT) therapy as at least part of the OCD treatment.

Here is an article on questions to ask a therapist to ensure they know how to treat OCD: https://iocdf.org/ocd-finding-help/how-to-find-the-right-therapist/
Also, The Specialist OCD Clinic, NOCD and Overcoming OCD have many good OCD therapists and may have some availability.

For residential OCD treatment, here are a few options we know of:
1. NHS Specialist OCD Treatment Services (UK)

2. The Priory Group (UK)

3. McLean Hospital (Massachusetts, USA)
McLean is widely regarded as the top option for residential OCD treatment, offering programs for both teens and adults. The clinical staff is highly experienced and well-trained, with some using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and others using the Inhibitory Learning Model.

4. Rogers Behavioral Health (Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, USA)
Rogers has facilities across the U.S., but the Oconomowoc location stands out as the most effective. Their program is primarily based on the habituation model. It's worth noting that while the therapists typically meet with clients for 1–2 hours, the majority of therapeutic contact (around 15 hours) is delivered by behavioral coaches, who may have less experience.

5. The OCD Institute of Texas (USA)
This program is also based on the habituation model and is staffed by caring clinicians. While we don’t have as much feedback on their handling of complex cases, they seem to do well with more straightforward presentations.

6. Sheppard Pratt (USA)

For outpatient treatment, we often recommend:
East Bay Behavior Therapy Center (California)
An outpatient clinic offering evidence-based treatment for OCD and related disorders.
